KARACHI: Police on Tuesday booked several workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party, including its candidate on a National Assembly seat in district Central, in a case pertaining to the murder of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan activist in a clash in Nazimabad late on Sunday night.

Gulbahar SHO Shabbir Husain said PPP candidate from NA-249 Rao Abdul Waheed had been nominated in the case as his guard allegedly carried out firing with a rifle during the clash. He said that raids were conducted but no one had so far been arrested.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of MQM-P candidate from NA-249 Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui under sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He said that over two dozen PPP workers led by Rao Saeed and Rao Abdul Waheed attacked the MQM-P election office and also resorted to firing. As a result, MQM-P worker Faraz Ahmed Qureshi suffered a bullet wound and died on the spot.

Meanwhile, PPP leader Waqar Mehdi said their party worker Rao Talha was also injured and vehicles belonging to Rao Waheed were also torched during the clash. He said the PPP had submitted an application before the Gulbahar police for lodging an FIR, but to no avail.
