KARACHI: A district and sessions court on Monday granted pre-arrest bail to a private television anchor in a domestic violence case.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (Central) Gahanwar Khan Gadehi granted Ashfaque Ishaque Satti interim pre-arrest bail till Feb 12 against a surety bond of Rs50,000.
A case was registered at North Nazimabad police station under sections 324 (attempted murder), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 337-A (hurt on the head or face of any person) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
North Nazimabad SHO Farooq Ahmed Sanjrani told Dawn on Monday that the FIR was lodged on a complaint of Mr Satti’s wife Nomaika Tahir Mehmood.
The SHO said that the anchor had three wives.
According to the FIR, the complainant said she went to meet her mother in Model Colony on Jan 19 and stayed there till Jan 22 as she (the mother) was not feeling well.
She said her husband had come to her mother’s house to take her back and started quarrelling, asking suspiciously as to whom she was staying with for the last three days. Then, the complainant said, he started beating her, causing serious injuries on her left eye, which adversely affecting her eyesight.
Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said she was initially examined on Jan 24 at the medico-legal section of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. “Today, she was re-examined at her own request at the medico-legal section of the Civil Hospital Karachi.
