KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday claimed to have arrested a man for his alleged involvement in illegal arms trade, officials said.

They said that that a CTD team carried out a raid on Hub River Road and took into custody Muhammad Zahid. As many as 12 unlicensed pistols and bullets were recovered from him.

During grilling, the suspect disclosed that two residents of Mansehra had given him the weapons and he was supposed to provide the same to people here.

“During the last few years, it is being seen that many people, including students of colleges and universities purchase such weapons online from people sitting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Such arms dealers tend to dispatch their orders through different sources and routes in Karachi,” the CTD officials said, adding that online sale and purchase of unlicensed weapons was illegal.

They added that dealers of illegal arms sent their consignments through buses, private transport and courier services in Karachi and other parts of the country.
