BAHAWALPUR: Deploring the current state of economy, PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif has promised to control inflation, create new jobs, construct new motorways and improve the overall infrastructure if voted to power.

Addressing an election rally in Vehari district’s Burewala town on Friday, the former prime minister lashed out at the previous PTI government for skyrocketing inflation and compared the prices of essential items and tariff of utilities during the PML-N government with those during the Imran Khan-led government.

“Don’t you remember my [last] rule when the prices of essential items were far less than the present day? Roti was available for Rs4, electricity bill of Rs500 is now touching Rs20,000, and farm inputs and machinery are now five times costlier,” Mr Sharif said.

When he asked the participants, especially the youth, to raise hands if they were jobless, almost all of them raised their hands. At this, the three-time former prime minister expressed empathy with the attendants and said, “I love you, but I’m sad to learn that you are unemployed.”

Mr Sharif blamed the former PTI government for unemployment, saying that had his government been allowed to complete its term, no youth would have been unemployed today.

Addressing the rally after his father, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that the party would launch its election manifesto on Saturday (today).

She said the PML-N was committed to providing all facilities and relief to the masses, adding that the rival political parties were befooling people in the name of south Punjab province.

Ms Nawaz claimed that her party had served the people of south Punjab better than other parties and added that her rivals don’t have a single development project of significance to show in Punjab.

She said her father, Mr Sharif, during his tenure developed Multan, Bahawalpur and other cities, along with Lahore.
