Malik guides Sialkot to victory

KARACHI, Feb 24: Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik starred in Sialkot Stallions’ exciting eight-run victory over Lahore Eagles in the Twenty20 Cup at the UBL Sports Complex on Friday.

Malik scored a brisk 66 off 41 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes.

Shahzad Malik blasted two sixes and two fours. Skipper Imran Nazir hammered three fours and a six in his 13-ball inning.

Sialkot was put to bat first by the Eagles and piled up 203-7 in their 20 overs. Imran Farhat took three wickets for 31 with his leg-spin and smashed 62 runs in 37 deliveries with nine boundaries and a six.

Arsalan Mir contributed an unbeaten 36 in 30 balls with two sixes and two boundaries.

The Lahore Eagles were restricted to 195. They needed 25 runs in the final over.

In the second match at the same ground, the Karachi Zebras registered a 13-run win over the Rawalpindi Rams with opener Ashraf Ali cracking 75 off 54 deliveries with six boundaries and four fours.

At the National Bank ground, the Abbotabad Rhinos beat the Islamabad Leopards by one run after a nerve shattering tie.

Spinner Dilawar Khan and Amjad Waqas took two wickets each and member of the Junior World Cup winning team Riaz Kail got one for 18 in three overs.

The Islamabad Leopards needed seven runs in the final over with three wickets in hand but managed only five.

In other match Peshawar Panthers humbled Faisalabad Wolves by 34 runs due to fine batting by Riffat Ullah who made 68 at National Stadium.

Peshawar Panthers hit up 185 for five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Younis Khan and Jan Nisar Khan chipped in with useful 37 each.

Faisalabad were all out for 151 in 17.1 overs with Jan Nisar taking three wickets for 11 runs to hasten the decline Wolves.
