KARACHI: Dr Zaheer-ul-Haq, a professor at the Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), has been elected as a fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS), said a Karachi University statement on Wednesday.

Prof Dr Farzana Shaheen, the director of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), congratulated Prof Haq for his achievement.

It said Prof Haq is a distinguished scientist renowned for his exceptional contributions to the field of computational chemistry. He serves as both the founder and head of Pakistan’s premier Computational Chemistry Laboratory, established at the Dr Panjwani’s Centre. His research focuses on critical health issues, including Alzheimer’s, Hypertension, Cancer, Immun­osupp­ression, Leishmaniosis, and Hepatitis. He also holds five US patents and has also won several national and international awards.
