LAHORE: Former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the terrorism, poverty and inflation are three major problems of the country and these problems can be resolved by strengthening democracy.

He was addressing a Pakistan People’s Party 56th founding day ceremony in Multan on Wednesday.

He said Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto laid foundation of the party to strengthen democracy and struggle for the rights of the people.

He said PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former President Asif Ali Zardari were committed to the mission of founder Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

Mr Gilani said that former prime ministers Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and Mian Nawaz Sharif had drafted Charted of Democracy. “We have to move forward for the implementation of the Charter of Democracy,” he said.

He said President Asif Ali Zardari had truly struggled to give his powers to the parliament so that democracy could be strengthened.

Mr Gilani said unemployed youth were given employment, minorities were given rights. After the martyrdom of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto continued her father’s mission and her great achievement was missile technology, highlighting the issue of Kashmir at the international level.

He said in the same way, after her martyrdom, party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former President Asif Ali Zardari continued her mission.
