LAKKI MARWAT: One person was killed and 12 others, including security personnel, suffered injuries in an explosion in Bakkakhel area of Bannu district on Sunday.

Official sources said that the bomb was planted in a rickshaw parked on Miramshah road in Azad Mandi area.

“A powerful explosion took place when a vehicle carrying security personnel from Miramshah reached near the rickshaw, leaving a passerby, Ashraf Ali of Mamandkhel, dead,” officials said, adding the vehicle was also damaged in the explosion.

They said at least three security personnel and eight civilians were wounded in the blast and they were taken to Combined Military Hospital and district headquarters hospital, Bannu.

Law-enforcement personnel reached the spot soon after getting the information about the attack and cordoned off the area, they said, adding that a search operation was also launched in the area.

No official statement was issued by the military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations, till the filing of this report.
