LAKKI MARWAT: A peace rally was taken out in Naurang town here on Friday to denounce growing lawlessness and killing of innocent citizens.

The Marwat Bittani Qaumi Tehreek, a rights body, had given call for the rally after the murder of four people by unidentified men in separate firing incidents in last one week. Political and social activists also participated.

They passed through different bazaars and gathered on the main road, chanting slogans in favour of peace and against lawlessness in Lakki Marwat.

Speaking on the occasion, the body’s chairman Inamullah Khan, former district nazim Ishfaq Meenakhel, Malik Hizbullah, Mohammad Ismail and Mufti Irfanullah of Jamaat-i-Islam and Haji Yaqoob Khan said residents were even not safe at their homes as theft, robbery and killing incidents had become a routine in the district.

They said at least four people had been killed by unknown armed motorcyclists in Naurang town over the last one week, making it the worst killing spree.

They condemned the murders and said residents were deeply concerned over lawlessness and surge in crimes.

“The poor law and order has badly impacted business activities besides the life of citizens,” a speaker said, adding though people preferred to stay indoors after evening they were not even safe in their houses.

The protesters asked the local administration and police to trace the gangs of bandits and criminals and take practical steps for protecting life and property of citizens.
