LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the police action on the Gujranwala wing party office, allegedly for applying and seeking permission to hold a workers’ convention at a secure location.

The PTI Central Punjab shared videos of the police raiding the party office and leaders’ homes.

PTI Gujranwala district president Mian Arqam Khan and general secretary Ali Raza Shahnawaz Butter had filed an application with the deputy commissioner, Gujranwala, seeking permission to hold a workers’ convention in a securely enclosed location. Instead of granting permission for the proposed workers’ convention, they claimed that the police raided their offices and homes.

Speaking to Dawn, PTI Central Punjab additional general secretary Sardar Azeemullah said the PTI leaders from central Punjab districts had filed more than two dozen applications, but nowhere was permission granted.

“We have filed a writ petition, attaching all applications, which is scheduled to be heard on Monday,” he stated.

Mr Azeemullah said it was a total negation of the Constitution, especially when all other parties were holding public meetings and conventions. “We are committed to fighting for our rights,” he added.
