Marvel has announced a new Black Widow & Hawkeye comic series that will see the two iconic characters teaming up early next year.

The limited series will celebrate 60 years of comics featuring Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton, with new stories told by Marvel stars. Throughout the four-issue series, the duo’s past full of secrets and espionage will be explored along with more recent developments.

Black Widow & Hawkeye #1 kicks off with Clint finding himself accused of a rogue assassination attempt, and, as a result, the US and Madripoor (Marvel’s fictional island in maritime Southeast Asia) are now at odds. A symbiote-equipped Natasha comes to Barton’s aide as the story explores the characters’ intertwined past and how it will influence their future. Black Widow & Hawkeye #1 goes on sale on March 13 from Marvel Comics.

Marvel Studios has contemplated bringing back Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, for a future Avengers film, according to a recent report by Variety. While this idea remains uncertain, discussions about reuniting the original MCU Avengers team, including deceased characters like Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, have taken place. Fans have long anticipated Downey Jr.’s return as Iron Man. Nevertheless, with financial and critical challenges in the MCU, the decision could be seen as a desperate move by Disney.
