SUKKUR: Two young children drowned after the boat they were riding overturned in an irrigation channel in Ubauro taluka of Ghotki district on Sunday.

According to residents of Cross Band village, Hasan Ali and Sardar Ali, belonging to a Mirani family, were fishing in the channel near the village when the boat capsized. Hearing their hue and cry, many people, including some divers, jumped into the water and took out the drowning children, they added.

According to officials at the Khambra police station, the children were transported to the Ubauro hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

The bodies were handed over to the bereaved families after a postmortem examination.

Man found dead

The body of a man was found lying at the Rohri section of the National Highway on Saturday evening.

According to the Rohri police, they went to the spot and collected the body. The CNIC found in his pocket identified him as Bashir Baloch, a resident of Salehpat town, they said.
