KARACHI: A 25-year-old student was found dead inside a bathroom of a Karachi University (KU) hostel on Monday, police said.

They added that the body of Mukhtiar Ali was recovered from a washroom of the hostel of HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry.

Mobina Town SHO Abdul Sattar Magsi said that the KU administration had informed the police about the incident.

The student was doing M.Phil in Chemistry and was living in Room No 22 of the hostel. He went to have breakfast on Monday, and after returning to his room, went to the hostel’s washroom. At around 2:30pm, sanitary workers arrived to clean the washroom. They cleaned three washrooms but could not carry out cleaning of the fourth as its door was locked from inside and sound of water pouring was coming from inside it.

Assuming that someone was taking a bath, they left. However, at the time of Asr, one student went to the toilet and saw that the door was still locked from inside. The student informed the guard, who along with other guards and around three-four students, broke open the door and found the student lying dead.

The SHO said the body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of the death.

The student originally hailed from Swat, the police said.
