ISLAMABAD: Mari Petroleum clinched the national hockey championship title after defeating defending champion Wapda 4-3 here at the retired Lt Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed Hockey Stadium in Rawalpindi on Monday.

The match went to penalty shootouts after the score was tied at 1-1 in the stipulated time. The deadlock remained at 2-2 in the penalty shootout. The match then went onto the sudden death stage and Mari Petroleum came out on top as they scored first to claim the crown.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar graced the event with his presence
