LAHORE: During the ongoing operation against power pilferers, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) on Sunday found its employee--Technical Assistant of Data Ganj Bakhsh Division, stealing electricity.

According to a company spokesman, an inspection team of the McLeod Road Sub-Division caught Afzal Haider stealing electricity for his home in the area of Qila Gujar Singh.

Now suspended, Afzal Haider was stealing electricity through a tempered meter and caused a loss of Rs 700,000 to the company.

The team removed the meter and wires and got registered a case against the accused with the Qila Gujjar Singh Police Station.

On the other hand, the Lesco teams detected another 385 connections from where the customers were pilfering electricity in all its circles of five districts--Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara. The teams also recovered Rs15 million from 556 chronic defaulters.

Meanwhile, SNGPL teams on Sunday detected another 199 cases related to gas pilferage and other illegalities. The teams disconnected gas supply and imposed fines amounting to Rs5 million.
