ISLAMABAD: Afraz and Mohammad Waqar got the goals Mari Petroleum edged Pakistan Army 2-1 in their match of the 67th National Hockey Championship at the retired Lt Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed Hockey Stadium in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

It was the closest game on the opening day of the championship, with Amad getting on the scoresheet for Army, as the other four matches turned out to be lop-sided affairs.

Five players scored twice each as Punjab-B crushed Gilgit-Baltistan 10-1, Sindh outclassed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 5-1 while Pakistan Police beat Balochistan-B 3-1.

The championship is being organised by Pakistan Hockey Federation in collaboration with Army Welfare Trust.
