SWABI: A 10-year-old boy was killed by three persons from a rival family while he was on way to school here on Thursday over an old enmity, police and Rescue 1122 officials said.

The victim, identified as Abdul Samad, 10, was on way to a private school in Gohati area. As he reached near the Gohati Bridge, three accused already waiting for him there, opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.

Mr Kalimullah, the school principal, told Dawn on contact that the deceased was 5th grade student. Earlier, he said Samad had told his parents he didn’t wish to attend school.

Head of Swabi Action Committee and former provincial general secretary of Awami National Party, Salim Khan Advocate condemned the grisly act and demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits.

DSP headquarters Jawad Khan said an FIR had been registered against the accused, Luqman Khan, Wali Dad and Niaz Khan. He said one of the accused had been arrested and a pistol used in the crime recovered from him.

Meanwhile, a man identified as Gul Zada, 45, was injured when a rickshaw overturned near Panjpir bus stop on the Swabi-Jehangira Road on Thursday.

Also in the day, Yasir Khan, 18, was injured when his motorcycle collided with a van on Swabi-Topi Road. He was taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Separately, Sadam Khan, 18, was injured when his rivals opened fire on him in Panjpir village. He was taken to the Bacha Khan Hospital Complex.

GATHERING: Police officials and teachers during a function held at a government higher secondary school here on Thursday advised students to avoid getting in touch with drug traffickers.

Topi police station SHO Subhanullah Jadoon, ASI Bashar Khan, head of the school, Said Arab Khan, and others spoke on the occasion.

They said drugs destroyed the health of youth, disturbed families and harmed the society as a whole. They stressed police and people should collectively work for eradication of drug menace in the society.
