TAXILA: The Attock district administration on Sunday finalised arrangements for its second national polio immunisation campaign of the year which begins today (Monday) across the district.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Attock Rao Atif Raza while presiding over a meeting of the health department.

All deputy district health officers, superintendents of vaccination, in-charge polio control room officials from education, the health department, the Punjab anti-polio programme and representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) were present on the occasion.

The DC said the second national anti-polio campaign of the year would start in Attock on October 2, in which over 300,000 children up to the age of five years will be administered anti-polio drops during the five-day campaign.

Mr Raza said: “Although there is no polio case in the district, wild poliovirus has been found in environmental samples from adjoining districts,” adding that, “it would be ensured that high-risk mobile population of children were vaccinated at transit points”.

Chief Executive District Health Authority Dr Asad Ismail said around 90 medical officers and 233 area in-charges would supervise the campaign.
