SAHIWAL: The World Bank, in collaboration with the Punjab Board of Revenue (BoR), is launching a pilot project Punjab Urban Land Systems Enhancement Project (PULSE) -- in Sahiwal district, envisaging digitised land partition and distribution.

This was stated by Nabeel Javed, Senior Member Punjab Board of Revenue (SMBR), during his visit to the city.

Elaborating, he said that after successful running of the PULSE pilot project in Sahiwal, the same would be replicated in other districts of Punjab.

Mr Javed said the project has four major objectives — development of a unified land information system in Punjab, the provision of a parcel map linked to the land record of Punjab, improved assessment of land for urban development, and improved land registry systems.

He hoped the project would revolutionise the land record system in Punjab as all land and revenue records would be digitalised with details of the owners.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ikramul Haq, who is coordinating the pilot project at Sahiwal, said it envisages digital land distribution and partition involving all hereditary owners.

Under the system, the owner of any piece of land would be identified at once, he said.

This will also help minimise the conflicts over land ownership both in the urban and rural areas in the province because of digitised record of land partition and improved registry system, especially in the cases originating from confusion about claimants in the land record.

The SMBR, along with Commissioner Shoiab Iqbal and the DC also visited the British-era land record room at the District Complex.

The World Bank website says PULSE is a US$150 million project launched on March 10, 2022, and scheduled to be completed around June 30, 2027.

The Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA), and the BoR are the implementing agencies of the PULSE project.
