Battagram woman DPO honoured

PESHAWAR: The International Association of the Women Police has honoured Sonia Shamroz Khan, the district police officer of Battagram, with the police officer of the year awardfor her efforts to prevent violence against women.

A statement issued here on Monday said that Ms Shamroz received the award at an event held in Auckland, New Zeland. She was awarded for best policing as well as the efforts for preventing violence against women.

Ms Shamroz has also served as DPO Chitral and other senior positions in KP police. She had set up complaint cells to address the issue of forced marriages of girls.

Talking to reporters, the Battagram DPO said she dedicated her award to the female victims of gender-based violence and hardworking women police officers. She said that women police officers were working hard to promote peace in the society. Besides, she said she always paid close attention to cultural sensitivities in her work, which resulted into increased reporting of women-related cases.
