RAWALPINDI: City Police Officer Khalid Hamdani held a meeting at the Police Lines Headquarters to review crime situation in the garrison city and expressed his satisfaction over the downward trend in street crime during the last few weeks and said that the crackdown on drug peddlers was a good start but there was still a long way to go.

The SSPs, Divisional SPs, SDPOs and SHOs participated in the meeting.

The CPO evaluated the performance of all police stations individually and gave instructions to the officers. The performance of each police station was also specially evaluated in the crackdown against drugs.

CPO Khalid Hamdani said that police efforts to solve crimes were better than before and directed to use all resources to improve it further. He said the crime rate has come down in the last few weeks which need to be further reduced jointly. Besides, the crackdown on drug peddlers was a good start, but there is still a long way to go.

He said good feedback has been received from the public as police were determined to eradicate the narcotics from Rawalpindi. He urged the police officers and officials to focus on cleaning the police stations, providing a better environment and service delivery to the citizens.

He said during the two weeks 345 accused including big drug dealers were arrested, more than seven maunds of hashish and more than 1,000 litres of alcohol were recovered from the accused.

SHO Sadar Baruni Jamal Nawaz was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his good performance against drug dealers.

Police said that there had been a considerable decrease of 61 per cent in dacoities as 25 cases were reported so far this year, 21 cases robbery with murder, 3,754 robberies as there was a decrease of 46pc, 4,202 incidents of snatching, 6,617 incidents of general theft with a decrease of 58pc, 485 car theft cases were reported with decrease of 31pc and 5842 motorcycle theft was reported so far this year with 26pc decrease.
