MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Thursday elevated a senior police officer as secretary to the government apart from making some other mutual transfers mainly in the police department.

According to a notification, Dr Khalid Mahmood Chauhan, deputy inspector general (DIG) police in Mirpur region, was transferred and posted as secretary tourism and archaeology in place of Ms Midhat Shahzad who was transferred and posted as secretary sports, youth and culture.

Chaudhry Raqeeb, who was earlier serving as secretary sports, youth and culture was transferred and posted as secretary food, a charge he was already holding on additional basis.

In the police department, Dr Liaquat Ali, who was transferred from the post of DIG police some time back and posted as ex-officio secretary disaster management and civil defence, was repatriated to his parent department and posted as DIG Rangers and Reserve.

Mohammad Yasin Qureshi, DIG Rangers and Reserve, was posted as DIG Muzaffarabad region in place of Irfan Masood Kashif who was transferred and posted as DIG Headquarters in Central Police Office (CPO).

DIG Headquarters Shehryar Sikandar was transferred and posted as DIG Poonch region in place of Sardar Zaheer Ahmed who was transferred and posted as DIG Traffic and Telecommunications in place of Chaudhry Sajjad Hussain.

Mr Hussain was transferred and posted as DIG Mirpur region, a position vacated by Mr Chauhan.
