ISLAMABAD: A team of the capital police has met 13-year-old housemaid Rizwana, currently undergoing treatment at a Lahore hospital, to inquire after her health as she is required to appear in a magistrate’s court for recording her statement in connection with the case registered against the wife of a civil judge for allegedly torturing her.

Sources told Dawn that the police team, including the investigation officer of the case registered at Humak police station, also met Rizwana’s family members and doctors and asked questions regarding the allegations leveled against the housemaid’s employer.

The girl and her family repeated same details which were given earlier, the sources said. The team informed the girl’s family and hospital staff that she was to be taken to Islamabad for her appearance in a magistrate’s court to record her statement under CrPC 164 and for further investigation.

The team was of the view that Rizwana’s condition is stable. However, she has to be kept in the hospital as per the doctors’ advice.

The sources said the police had interrogated the judge’s wife, but the civil judge has yet to give his statement.
