SWABI: A man shot dead a woman and then killed himself on a road in Shahmansoor Township here on Friday, SHO Zaida police station Asif Ali said.

He told Dawn while quoting witnesses that the man first shot the woman dead while travelling in a car then killed himself.

He said it was not clear whether the deceased were a couple and what was the reason behind the incident. He said the police reached the spot soon afterwards and collected a copy of the Holy Quran and a pistol from the vehicle. He said the gunshots were fired from the pistol.

He said a Rescue 1122 team shifted the bodies to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, for autopsy.

SHO Ali said the deceased hailed from Mir Ali village of Parmuli union council of Razaar tehsil. He said the police had informed the family about the incident.

He said the woman was in her mid 30s, while the man was 30 years of age as shown on his national identity card.
