KARACHI: Over one dozen workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf were arrested in different parts of the metropolis on Saturday for holding protest demonstrations against the conviction of former prime minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.

A senior police officer, who wished not to be named, said the arrests were made for defying a ban imposed under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC). He said that the ban was in place since May 10.

PTI leader Rizwan Khanzada and five others were arrested outside the Karachi Press Club where several policemen had already been deployed.

A party official told Dawn that 10 party workers were detained by the police when they attempted to hold a demonstration at Daud Chowrangi in Quaidabad.

He said that party’s local leaders were arrested in district Central as well.
