Poisonous fodder claims lives of 17 cows

TOBA TEK SINGH: Up to 17 cows belonging to a herd of more than 60 cows died after consuming poisonous fodder.

Herd owner Shamsul Hasan had arrived in the village of Chak 257-RB, Mazhbiwala, in the Dijkot area of Faisalabad district with his family and cows to graze on the seasonal natural grass.

They were staying in a compound of a local farmer when, on Thursday morning, they found that 17 cows had succumbed to the effects of a poisonous herb called buroo.

ELECTROCUTED: A young man, Muhammad Faisal, was electrocuted at Gojra in Chak 368-JB on Thursday.

While attempting to switch on the electric water pump motor in his house during rain, he accidentally touched a live wire and received a shock, leading to his instant death.

ACCIDENT: Eight members of a family from Bahawalpur sustained critical injuries near D Type Colony Chowk in Faisalabad.

Their van collided with a tractor-trolley, causing significant harm to the occupants.

The injured were identified as brothers Shaukat Ali and Muhammad Ali along with Zainab Bibi, Binyamin, Abdul Ghaffar, Attaullah, Muhammad Irshad and Naziran Bibi. All were rushed to the Allied Hospital.

Meanwhile, on the Faisalabad bypass Road in Jhang, Aslam Nawaz was crushed between two racing trucks driven at high speed.

Also, motorcyclist Elhamuddin lost his life after being hit by a bus in Faisalabad, near Khalidabad stop on Faisalabad Road.

He was identified as a resident of Chenab Nagar.

FLOOD RELIEF: As the water level in the Chenab increased, the district administration in Jhang took preventive measures and established 44 relief camps in the vicinity of the river.

Personnel from Rescue 1122, health, livestock and local government have been deployed in the camps round the clock in two shifts to ensure prompt response.

Wireless sets have also been provided to facilitate communication within the camps during this critical period.
