RAWALPINDI: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Rawalpindi Amir Niazi has been directed to report to the Central Police Office (CPO) Lahore in the wake of two top level inquiries initiated against him. Superintendent of Police Potohar Division Faisal Saleem has been assigned temporary charge of SSP Operation Rawalpindi till the new police officer is posted.

According to a senior police officer, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar ordered top level inquiry against the SSP Operations after serious allegations were made, one of which was described as the most grave and embarrassing for the police department.

The IGP appointed DIG Idris Malik as an inquiry officer and sent him to Rawalpindi to investigate the allegations.

On arriving, DIG Idris Malik recorded the statements of female SPs and three other junior police officials during his two day stay in the city.

A senior police officer revealed that one of the inquiries was related to a kidnapping of a child from Lahore and his recovery from Rawalpindi, while the details of the other inquiry can’t be revealed.

For the past couple of days, the outgoing SSP Amir Niazi had been on leave. On Saturday, he visited his office to take away his personal belongings.

On Sunday night, he was removed and directed to report to the CPO office. When the city Police officer was contacted, he confirmed the transfer of the SSP Operations.
