DERA GHAZI KHAN: Muhammad Khan Leghari, who had defeated PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif in 2018 elections on the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) ticket, announced quitting the party on Friday.

Mr Laghari, who is son of late Maqsood Khan Leghari, former provincial minister and ex-nazim of DG Khan, had contest the last poll from NA-192, defeating the current premier.

In a video statement, Leghari said he decided to part ways with the PTI because of the violent incidents of May 9.

He strongly condemned the attack on the military installations and the desecration of the army martyrs’ monuments by the PTI activists, saying he could no longer follow the anti-state narrative of the party chairman Imran Khan.

He, however, said he would continue to play his role in politics “for the betterment of the country and the people of his constituency.

Muhammed Khan Leghari’s late father Maqsood Khan Leghari remained a close friend of Parvez Elahi in his whole life.
