ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) is planning to enhance digitalisation in its working and reach out to members of different schools of thoughts in its upcoming membership drive.

JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghori said the party’s central executive committee would meet in the federal capital on July 16 to consider proposals for amendments in its constitution.

The agenda of the meeting, called by party emir Maulana Fazlur Rahman, includes ‘preparations for the upcoming national and provincial general elections’.

Sources in the party said the top leadership wou­ld also discuss measures to modernise the party.

“But there is misconception regarding modernisation; we are not going to amend our constitution to make it a secular or western kind of liberal party,” said a senior official of the party, who req­uested not to be named.

“The membership drive will be launched across the country from the 1st Muharram,” the official said.

A senior JUI-F official told Dawn that the target of the membership drive was to enhance the party’s penetration in Punjab and encourage people from other sects to join it.

“We would encourage people from other schools of thoughts, including Shia, Barelvi and Ahle Hadis, bearded or clean-shaven, to join the party,” the official said.
