STATE OF AFFAIRS: The current state of political polarisation in society is alarming. There are many individuals and institutions that have contributed to the crisis, including the country’s higher judiciary. As a believer, it is my belief that the misuse of the terms ‘Sadiq’ and ‘Ameen’ for ordinary human beings has its part as well. We must be careful with our words and verdicts.

QUESTIONABLE PRACTICES: We seem to have lost the true spirit of Eidul Azha. The act of sacrifice has become a mere ritual and an occasion to display one’s wealth and social status. Religious teachings are clear in this regard, but are not paid heed to.

To become a true Muslim, one must reject social conventions and practices.

ANIMAl TRADE: With Eidul Azha approaching, traffic chaos has increased manifold in the Gulberg area. This year the mess is worse as there is maintenance work going related to an underground pipeline. Past sunset, just the thought of using the road makes one feel miserable. This might be an unpopular opinion, but animal trade on streets in city areas needs to be banned. The authorities should take swift action in this regard.

TRAFFIC CHAOS: The chronic traffic congestion at Nagan Chowrangi has become worse these days owing to the additional rush related to the Eidul Azha buying spree. The main cause of the problem is the number of narrow roads that lead to the chowrangi. Built a long time ago, the roads are unable to handle the current volume of traffic. Add to it the Eid-related rush, and you have a perfect recipe for disaster. The relevant authorities should take immediate steps to improve the traffic situation. Wider roads, alternative routes, and better traffic management systems can help alleviate the congestion on the roads.
