KOHAT: Bodies of three workers, who were buried alive after a coal mine collapsed in Orakzai tribal district, were retrieved five days of the incident occurred by rescue teams of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority on Monday.

Deputy commissioner Tayyab Abdullah said that the mine in Khadizai area of Upper Orakzai collapsed after it was filled with water due to heavy rains.

He said that the district administration officials and miners tried their best for three days to remove the 600-foot deep debris to reach the trapped workers, but couldn’t succeed.

He said finally the PDMA was approached for help.

He said falling stones were removed, water pumped out and the bodies were pulled out.

He said the deceased miners were identified as Nawab Khan, Zakir and Nazim, hailing from Shangla.

After their postmortem was conducted at the hospital, the bodies were dispatched to their hometown.
