MARDAN: Patients and their attendants have complained about shortages of beds in cardiology and medical-A wards of Mardan Medical Complex (MMC).

The residents of Mardan and adjacent districts, visiting MMC along with their patients, said that they were facing hardships in the heath facility owing to shortage of beds.

They alleged that their patients were put for 10 to 12 hours on stretchers in cardiology and medical-A wards before shifting them to beds. They said that they had no option but to wait for finding a vacant bed for their patient.

They said that they had brought the issue into the notice of relevant officials of the hospital but to no avail. They added that the hospital staff said that it was also helpless to resolve the problem.

Some of them alleged that they were told to take their patients to Peshawar hospitals if they were not satisfy with the performance of MMC administration.

The medical director of MMC, Dr Imaad Hameed, when contacted, said that there was a lot of workload in the hospital. He claimed that they had inaugurated a new medical-B ward of 200 beds in the hospital few months ago. He said it also became insufficient due to visits of a large number of patients from around 12 districts. He said that patients from other districts were also frequently visiting MMC.
