LAHORE: The Anarkali police arrested a woman, along with three young men, when she tried to enter the office of the Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) impersonating an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) here on Wednesday.

The police also claimed to have recovered weapons from them and sent them behind bars after lodging a case.

Identified as Maryam Mustafa, the woman had come from Sheikhpura, a police official said.

He said the woman introduced herself at the main gate of the Central Police Office as an ASP and entered the premises, saying she had to hold a meeting with the IGP in connection with her ‘posting’.

He said that as the staff concerned questioned her about her batch and other matters related to the service, she got confused.

On suspicion, the staff further questioned her and found out that she was not an employee of the police department.

During the body search, the security staff at the CPO recovered a pistol from one of the male suspects accompanying the woman, he said, adding that they called the local police and got her arrested along with her three accomplices.

To a question, he said, the woman and other suspects were being interrogated.
