RAWALPINDI: Nanbais in the garrison city refused to accept the new prices of Roti as the district administration has fixed the price of Roti at Rs15 and Nan at Rs20.

However, the Roti price at tandoors is at Rs20 and Nan is Rs25.

Nanbais refused to accept it citing increase in rates of wheat flour and gas as the main reason for their refusal to accept new prices.

The district administration has asked the price magistrates to visit the markets and bazaars and ensure implementation of the new price of roti.

“There is no district administration in the city and the bakers increased prices with their own. The people faced difficulties,” said Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Arya Mohallah. Ahmed Malik, a resident of Akalgarh, said that the mostly people during the weekends did not make Roti at their homes and buy Nans but the prices of the roti is beyond their budgets.

He said that it was the duty of the local administration to ensure the official price list displayed at all the hotels and tandoors.

On the other hand, the bakers justified the increase in the prices of roti and said that wheat flour price and gas tariff jacked up many folds and they were unable to sell the Roti at the price fixed by district administration. Suhail Qureshi, Nanbai at Kashmiri Bazaar, said that the officials of district administration fixed the prices without consulting the main stakeholders and without survey of the market. He said that Atta was available Rs6000 per 40 kg and transporting charges were also increased.
