SWABI: Festive firing at a wedding ceremony claimed the life of a girl on Sunday night, police officials said.

Zaida police station officials said that the incident occurred in Shahmansoor village.

They identified the deceased as Taflika Amima, daughter of Amanullah.

They said that the police had arrested the accused, Asim Khan, and registered a case against him.

PROTEST: Jamaat-i-Islami workers held a protest demonstration here on Sunday, demanding immediate release Dr Aafia Siddiqui from a US prison.

JI leaders and workers gathered in the Yar Hussain Bazaar, holding placards and banners inscribed with demands for release of Dr Aafia.

The participants lauded the efforts of JI Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, who had met her in the prison, to get her released from jail.

The speakers called for all the political leaders to make efforts for ensuring early release of the woman from US prison.

They termed Dr Aafia’s long incarceration a grave human rights violation.
