SWABI: Three people were killed and one was injured when rival families clashed over a land dispute in Maini village of Topi tehsil here on Monday, a senior police official said.

Topi DSP Ijaz Khan said soon after receiving information about the incident, a contingent of police rushed to the spot to prevent further bloodshed.

He said both the families claimed ownership of a piece of shamilat (common land). He said Amjid Ali’s family wanted Gul Nawaz Khan’s family to remove a garbage dump from the land.

Another official said police found two bodies lying at the garbage dump.

He said Amjid and his nephew, Hamad Khan, died on the spot, while Gul Nawaz and his brother, Samin Khan, were seriously injured in the clash. The injured were taken to Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Shahmansoor, where Gul Nawaz succumbed to injuries. The other two bodies were taken to Topi Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

The Topi police station registered cross FIRs on the complaints of the members of the rival families and began further investigation.
