PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) secured the coveted first position in the recently-concluded first inaugural Cardiac Thoracic Grand Round Conference.

By presenting the best cardiac surgery cases at the conference, PIC affirmed its commitment to excellence in cardiac care, according to a statement issued here on Saturday.

Renowned medical institutions from across the region participated in the conference hosted by PIC.

Northwest Hospital, Peshawar, claimed the second position, while Rahman Medical Institute, Peshawar, secured the third spot, showcasing their expertise in presenting articles and cases related to complex heart surgeries.

Riaz Anwar, special adviser to the chief minister on health, who was the chief guest on the occasion, emphasised that the establishment of PIC was a precious gift for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He acknowledged the tremendous efforts and hard work invested in the development of the institute, which has rapidly achieved significant national and international successes in the field of cardiology and cardiac surgery.

He highlighted the institute’s commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services to the people of the province.

Prof Shahkar Ahmed Shah, PIC medical director, emphasised the institute’s role in nurturing a new generation of talented surgeons specialising in cardiac surgery.

The conference showcased a diverse array of exceptional cardiac procedures conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and throughout Pakistan.

The conference served as a platform for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and best practices, thus further elevating the standards of cardiac care in the region.
