KARACHI, Jan 22: A policeman was shot dead in New Karachi late Saturday night. Police said that ASI Naveed Taqi, 34, was coming from a wedding ceremony along with his wife and child when armed men on a motorcycle intercepted him near Do-Minute Chowrangi and pumped six bullets before fleeing.

Police said that the victim died on the spot while his family remained unhurt in the firing. “It was a target killing, we are trying to ascertain the motive behind it,” said a senior police officer adding that the deceased was associated of DSP Irfan Bahadur.

ASI Naveed Taqi had participated in Lyari operation.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons died in road accidents in different areas on Sunday.

Police said that a motorcyclist died when he slipped and suffered a head injury near the PIDC. The victim, identified as Akbar, was taken to the JPMC where he was pronounced dead, police said.

In Mithadar police limits, an unidentified man died after being hit by a speeding bus at Tower. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he died during treatment, police said.

Police said that the bus driver was arrested.

WOUNDED: A young man was wounded when unknown persons opened fire at him in North Nazimabad on Sunday evening.

Police said that Hafeezullah, 25, was sitting outside the office of Masjid Farooq-i-Azam North Nazimabad when three persons on a motorcycle opened fire.

He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was stated to be in stable condition.
