SWABI: The Swabi Loya Jirga has appealed to people to remain peaceful and avoid killing each other over trivial matters as 40 people have been killed and 60 others injured over petty disputes since the start of Ramazan.

Mohammad Ali, founder of the jirga, appealed to the people to resolve their problems through jirgas and show flexibility in amicable settlement of disputes.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Ali along with other members of the jirga said they were ready to play role to save precious lives from being lost. He said people should plan a bright future of their children by shunning violence.

”Our youth should have a peaceful future, where they can work for building their careers,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old boy, Shahman Khan, committed suicide in Kachkul Banda locality of Bamkhel.

Mirajuddin, father of the deceased, told the police his son was found dead in washroom with a pistol lying beside him. He said cause of him taking his life was a family dispute.

Separately, a man was allegedly killed for honour near Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate by four persons on Monday.

Father of the deceased told the police that the accused were waiting for his son, 25, near his house, and when he reached there from the bazaar, they started beating him up and later opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured.

He succumbed to injuries while being taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Topi.

The police said the deceased was having illicit relations with wife of one of the attackers.

Also on Monday, the police recovered the body of 17-year-old Mugheez Khan, a resident of Swabi city, from Pehur High Level Canal.

SHO Swabi city Ajab Durrani said Mugheez had disappeared a few days ago, and the police were informed by the locals about his body lying in the canal.

The body was moved to Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Shahmansoor, for autopsy. The police have registered an FIR and started investigations.
