Unique artworks by father, son put on display

ISLAMABAD: To commemorate the month of Ramazan, an exhibition opened at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Wednesday, titled Creative Photography, Calligraphy and Sculpture by Aftab Ahmed Khan (late) and his son Ahsan Khan at National Art Gallery.

PNCA dedicated Gallery No 5 to the new show where Sardar Shahjehan Yousaf, who is the special assistant to the prime minister, was the chief guest and opened the show to the public.

This new exhibition provides an interesting collection for viewers with over 100 pieces including photographs and sculptures. The works have been made with the use of a wide range of mediums and techniques. This exhibition will continue till March 30.

The late Aftab Ahmed Khan was a writer, forensic expert, artist, calligraphy extraordinaire and winner of the Pride of Performance award. Organisers said that the exhibition was testimony to his experience and skill.

The show was heavily visited by a large number of audience including artists, students, government officials, journalists and so on.

A large number of students also visited the show and interviewed artists about their techniques and art practices.

Organisers said that PNCA was dedicated towards promoting Pakistani art at the local and national scale. “Our unique programmes present traditional and contemporary art practices and we reflect upon the excellence and cultural diversity of Pakistan as well as supporting professional development of the artist,” said one of the organisers.

PNCA remains committed towards promoting significant aspects of the country and encourages community participation in gallery activities, fostering curatorial practice to the artist’s own understanding of their work and encourages a healthy and sustainable local art industry.
