SHANGLA: A teenage orphan girl was allegedly killed by her maternal aunt for refusing to marry her son in far-flung Shahtoot area of Alpuri tehsil the other day, the police said.

The Alpuri police station got registered an FIR after the matter was reported to them on Sunday.

The FIR was lodged by Wazir Khan, a cousin of the slain girl’s mother, who stated that his niece, 16, was allegedly killed by the family with whom she was living.

The complainant said that the slain girl, Muslima, had been living with her maternal aunt since her mother got married to someone in Mingora area of Swat after her husband had gone missing years ago from a coal mine.

Wazir Khan stated in the FIR that the orphan girl’s aunt wanted to marry her to her son, Sher Ali, 22, but she was not ready to marry him, and that was the reason behind her killing. He alleged that the girl was poisoned to death.

Two persons have been nominated in the FIR, including Sher Ali, the son of the alleged killer, and Hamil Kareem, the husband of the woman.

The police have begun further interrogation into the case.

The local people told Dawn that the slain girl was buried the other day.

They added that her aunt’s family had declared it a natural death, but her father’s relatives rejected their claim and demanded autopsy of the body.

Meanwhile, the Chakesar police station officials arrested a proclaimed offender, who was wanted in criminal cases.

A statement issued by district police officer, Shangla, Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada on Sunday said that the outlaw was arrested during an operation conducted in Katkor area.
