KARACHI: The health department has ordered an inquiry to verify bribery allegations levelled by a grade-19 doctor, who recently attempted suicide.

A notification said that Special Secretary-Health Nawaz Sohoo will conduct the inquiry into the allegations of Dr Abdul Aziz Sodhar against certain health officials.

The department said on Friday that Dr Sodhar, who was serving as the medical superintendent of a Malir hospital, had applied for four-month earned leave.

“His leave was granted in October 2022 and upon availing the leave, he reported back to the department in January with the request that he may be posted in Chandka Hospital Larkana,” it said, adding that his request was granted but on March 14 Dr Sodhar attempted suicide.
