KARACHI: Armed robbers looted over a dozen expensive mobile phones from a shop in Defence Housing Authority on Sunday, officials and witnesses said.

The incident prompted area shopkeepers to take to street in protest over increasing incidents of robberies, street crime and lawlessness in the city.

South-SSP Syed Asad Raza said that two armed robbers arrived at a shop located on Khayaban-i-Saher in Phase-VI. They posed themselves as customers who had come to get their cell phone repaired.

The officer said a security guard was posted there, but he was busy talking with other employees. One of the suspects held down the guard, while the other collected 15-20 expensive cell phones and escaped with his accomplice.

Later, shopkeepers blocked the main road for vehicular traffic in protest against the incident.

SSP Raza, who reached the scene and met the protesters, convinced them to end their protest.
