DADU: Over 4,000 flood victims suffering from gastroenteritis, urticarial and malaria reported at a one-day free medical camp organised here on Thursday by Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro at the 450-bed district headquarters Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Hospital.

LUMHS Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Ikramuddin Ujjan told Dawn that the camp was held keeping in view the spread of gastro, malaria and other diseases where doctors and medical staff conducted medical examinations of the patients and gave medicines free of cost.

He said women and children were in majority among the patients belonging to different villages of Dadu district. The VC said the doctors advised the visiting patients to take care of themselves and their children, use boiled water, pay special attention to their cleanliness, eat healthy food and use mosquito nets to avoid diseases.

“Most of the flood-hit women who reported from Johi area have gynaecological issues as they never were examined by doctors,” Surgeon Prof Dr Ruhi Nagar told this reporter.

“Flood-hit women have serious and complicated problems,” Dr Maryam Phulpotto, a gynaecologist, told Dawn.

“Around 150 children with neuro issues were reported and prescribed medicines,” Neurosurgeon Pir Asad Aziz Qureshi said.

“1,500 children facing gastro, malaria and chest issues were reported — they all belong to Kachho mountains and flood-hit areas of Johi, K.N. Shah, Mehar and Dadu,” Child Specialist Dr Zamir Ahmed Qambrani said.

“Most little girls and boys have complications of chest infection and other issues while a large number of them lost their due to malnutrition,” said Paediatric Surgeon Dr Sana Mahmood.
