HARIPUR: A teenage girl and her brother were killed while their father was critically injured when a CNG cylinder fitted to their car exploded at a filling station in Sera-i-Saleh area, the police said on Saturday.

The police quoted witnesses as saying that a car with a family on board was refueling at a CNG station on Friday night when the gas cylinder fitted in the rear portion of the vehicle exploded with a bang. The explosion left the man in the driving seat and two others, including a teenage girl, sitting on the back seat, critically injured.

However, the CNG station staff remained unhurt. The injured were removed to the Haripur Trauma Centre, where the doctors pronounced two of them – a teenage girl and her brother – dead. Their father, namely Qari Mehmood Akhtar, was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, in critical condition.

The deceased were identified as Hafsa Bibi and her brother, Inayatullah.

The police said that the cause of the explosion was substandard CNG cylinder.
