SAHIWAL: Governor Balighur Rehman on Saturday distributed degrees and medals among students at the first convocation of the University of Sahiwal (UoS).

In the afternoon, he inaugurated the Made-in-Sahiwal Expo at the Hockey Stadium. Earlier on Friday, the governor awarded degrees and medals to 100 medical graduates of the Sahiwal Medical College belonging to the 2016-21 session.

A large number of university students, parents, faculty, academicians and intelligencia of the city participated in the UoS convocation. Speaking to students, he said handling social media was a challenge and “it it’s our responsibility to share content after confirming it. No fake and immoral content should be spread around in the society.”

According to VC Dr Javed Akhter, 729 male/female students of 2016 batch were awarded degrees, distinctions and medals in the convocation. This was the first convocation, 10 years after the UoS inception.

The VC said recently 600 university students and faculty members were connected and engaged for global learning through a system named COURSERA.

Free access to the internet is provided to explore digital knowledge both from premises and at home. He said the Punjab government had allocated a development budget for the construction of new academic and administrative blocks and work was under way.

He said presently 7,000 students had been enrolled in 13 different disciplines.

EXPO: The governor inaugurated the three-day Expo at the Hokey Stadium where 115 stalls of small-scale industry had been placed.

The governor visited all stalls and showed interest in the development of the small-scale cottage industry. He promised serious efforts on his part to develop second Small Industrial Zone in the Sahiwal division.
