KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department on Saturday claimed to have arrested an employee of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) for his alleged involvement in targeted killings in the city.

The held suspect, identified as Mohammed Baig alias Shiraz, said to be involved in the May 12 violence, targeted killings of workers of rival political and religious parties. He had carried out such activities between 2009 and 2013.

A spokesperson for the CTD, without mentioning any names, said that he was associated with a political party.

During an initial probe, the suspect disclosed that the political party gave him job in the KDA as a “reward” to his terrorist activities, the spokesperson said, adding that he set up a new team of hitmen in order to destabilise peace in the city.

Separately, Rangers and police jointly carried out snap-checking in the Korangi Crossing and Zaman Town areas and arrested three suspected street criminals identified as Asim Raza, Asad and Adeeb.
