KARACHI: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a suspected militant of the outlawed Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) for his alleged involvement in attacks on Rangers and Chinese citizens.

They also claimed that he got militancy training in Afghanistan.

“We have arrested Hanif alias Billu, who is affiliated with outlawed SRA,” said Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur.

He said that the name of the held suspect was included in the ‘Red Book’ of the Counter-Terrorism Department.

“He was involved in grenade attacks on Rangers in Karachi and other parts of Sindh. He got training of handling weapons, rocket launchers and bomb making from Afghanistan,” he said.

The SSP said that the suspect had joined the SRA in 2019 and he was using the Telegram app to stay in touch with his accomplices.

He said that he was involved in a June 10, 2020 grenade attack on Rangers near Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-i-Jauhar as well as two other grenade attacks against the paramilitary force in Ghotki on June 19, 2022 and Pano Aqil on Aug 5, 2020, respectively.

He said that he was also involved in attacks against Chinese citizens in Clifton, Superhighway and Quaidabad.
