LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Wednesday carried out an anti-encroachment operation on nine model roads of the city.

LDA Director General Aamir Ahmed Khan said violators involved in encroachments would be penalised at every cost.

He said the steps were taken to upgrade nine main roads of the city into model roads while adding all the allied institutions were following the recommendations of the committee set up on the order of the court.

On the order of Lahore High Court and under the supervision of DG LDA Aamir Ahmad Khan, the operation against illegal encroachments on nine main roads of the city is continuing rapidly.

The LDA teams along with a heavy contingent of police conducted anti-encroachment operation in G-1 Market Johar Town and issued notices to 40 shops and 18 other buildings to remove unauthorised structures from the parking areas and other illegal commercial activities.

A number of shops were also sealed over encroachment. The operation in G-I Market was supervised by Deputy Director Atiq and Assistant Director Waris.

Notices have been issued repeatedly to hospitals, schools, restaurants and other institutions and action is being taken against illegal commercial activity and violation of rules for parking areas and building bylaws.

The roads where the operation has been launched by town planning zones of the LDA include Johar Town (Doctors Hospital to Expo Centre), Main Boulevard, Allama Iqbal Town (Wahdat Road to Scheme Mor via Dubai Chowk), Gulberg (Zahoor Elahi Road, Hali Road, MM Alam Road), Mustafa Town (main road starting from Wahdat Road), Jubilee Town (main road starting from Link Canal Road), LDA Avenue-1 (main road starting from Jail Road), Garden Town (from Kalma Chowk and to Faisal Town) and Township (Khokhar Chowk to Hamdard Chowk).
