DARKNESS

DARKNESS: Upper Chitral has huge potential to produce inexpensive hydropower electricity, but the district itself remains in complete darkness. The power houses in the area produce low-voltage output due to bad planning and execution of projects. The winters are harsh in the area, and lack of electricity adds to the difficulties of the locals.

CAREER COUNSELLING: Career counselling has become a very sensitive matter. Many parents force their children to choose the subjects that they prefer. As a result, students are unable to perform well in their studies. Many of them become depressed when they fail to live up to their parents’ expectations. Parents should be encouraged to have career counselling before they start forcing their choices on their children.

MEANS OF EARNING: The current economic downturn has encouraged many skilled youths to opt for freelancing in the hope that a stable internet connection and a laptop would make their life easy. But, owing to the skyrocketing prices of electronic gadgets, even this investment is beyond their means. There definitely has to be some kind of market rationalisation.

TOLL ON TIME: National Savings may have a significant contribution financially, but it is surely a time-drainer when it comes to make any kind of transaction. The pace is so slow that it is an amazing sight to watch provided you are not in the queue yourself. This has been taking a serious toll on the precious time of the customers. The authorities concerned should seriously consider starting an SMS alert service that may allow the users to know about their deposits or withdrawals.
